Sarah from Blackmagic walked me through the HyperDeck Shuttle 4K Pro on the NAB 2025 floor.

What's new

The old Shuttle was essentially just the right-hand side of this unit: jog/shuttle wheel, start/stop, clip repeat and playback. The Pro adds a large screen and a built-in speaker, so you're not flying blind. The interface matches Blackmagic's Video Assist monitors and the larger HyperDeck Studio units, with play commands, status, timecode and current codec on screen.

The parts that matter on a show

  • It's a 10 gig network-connected device, so media can be shared across a networked facility instead of being stuck behind HDMI and SDI
  • Storage keeps the traditional SD card slot and adds an internal M.2 SSD. You can run both, using the M.2 normally and dropping in an SD card on the fly.
  • SDI and HDMI on the back, plus a quarter-inch headphone jack so you can monitor without the speaker

It records and plays back, whether that's a program feed, ISOs or a direct camera feed. Though with that screen and jog wheel, Sarah's take is that most people will use it for playback and cueing clips. It was already shipping at the show.
